Australian Healthcare Technology gets HIC On-line Accreditation

The flagship product of the Australian Healthcare Technology stable, Rx, has received its Notice Of Integration (NOI) for HIC On-line (release 3.0). There are significant financial incentives for Australian Healthcare Technology attaching to this program. The company will receive a payment for the software integration of $70,000 and then a fee of $1,000 per site that successfully uses the new HIC functionality for a one-month period before 31 December 2004, and $400 per site for the following year per site. Australian Healthcare Technology has 1100 sites.

The HIC On-line functionality will allow users of Rx to make real time Bulk Bill, DVA and Patient Claims direct with the HIC and receive their financial entitlements quicker as a result. They will also be able to offer their customers the convenience of paying just the "gap" charge instead of a full payment the customer then must claim back via a visit to the Medicare office.

The HIC On-line program is an important one for the future of the Healthcare system and is strategically aligned to Australian Healthcare Technology's own mission of providing products and services that lower health costs and provide better treatment outcomes to patients.

Australian Healthcare Technology is also an early partner with the HIC in the integration of real time linkages between the primary care provider and private health funds (private patient claiming). This will allow the doctor to claim any entitlements for their customers from the customer's private health fund policy. This will benefit the customer by making any "gap" payments even lower. "Doctors offering this service will be in demand amongst certain patient groups, in particular the elderly and young families, hence it represents great potential for software products that deliver this functionality," said Phillip Hyde Managing Director of Australian Healthcare Technology.

HIC ONLINE FAQ

Q: Why is my claim rejected if I only have a postal address?

A: Medicare Australia will reject any claims sent electronically that only have a PO Box address. If you only have a PO Box, you will need to clear that field and send no address at all. Medicare will populate the address for the cheque with the one they have on file.

If there is a street address, Rx will send this to Medicare.

Therefore, either have a street address or no address for HIC Online claims.

Q: I want to send a note along with my claim – how do I enter this

A: Rx Medical has Endorsements that can be selected by the drop down box during creation of an account. This will be transmitted to Medicare with the claim. Set these up via Utilities, Reference Tables, Endorsements.

Q: Does the Patient still have to sign a bulk bill claim?

A: Yes, but this is now printed as plain paper from Rx Medical.

Q: Where do I enter the Patients BSB and Account for direct debit payment?

A: When you are transmitting, there is an option to pay the Patient. If this is selected then an area to enter the BSB and Account no appears.

Q: Do I have to put all my claims through HIC Online?

A: No, you can elect to put some through, do some manually or not at all.

Q: If I am claiming "real time" what if my broadband goes down?

A: No problem, just store for forwarding later, or print accounts the old way.

Q: How do I find out what the messages codes are from Medicare?

A: When you received your pack from Medicare, there would be a list of messages and meanings. If the code does not appear there, ring the Medicare Helpline. They can advise you of any new code meanings.

Q: Do I have to use broadband?

A: Dial up would be slow, but could be used for store and forward, however it is highly recommended you get broadband or speed will be an issue.

Q: If I want to change from Store and Forward to Real Time claiming, or vice versa, do I have to apply again?

A: No, it is simply a choice at the time of transmission. Create the account in the normal way and select HIC button then your choice of Store or Transmit. Very easy.
